Aosoth: Ashes of angels

08/12/09  ||  Khlysty

Your Holiness, I think that we’re in trouble. Big trouble, indeed. Like, if you pardon my French, shitstorm-size trouble.

What? Oh, no, no, no, nothing like this. No, your personal life is definitely in good, secure hands and nothing will ever leak out to the great unwashed, you have nothing to worry about.

No, neither that happened. The Vatican’s new security system is unbreachable. No-one can enter out sacred vaults and see the, ehm, little secrets hidden there, so, no problem there, too.

No, Your Holiness, it’s those damned French. Again. I’ve told you –several times, now- that we HAD to take steps to kill this… “movement” while it was still a toddler. Now, I don’t know if it’s possible.

No, it’s not Deathspell Omega, neither Mutiilation, neither Peste Noire. It’s those goshdarned guys in Aosoth. Yes, yes, the self-same Aosoth we’ve been talking about some months ago.

What do you mean, “what did they do this time?”, Your Holiness? Why, whaddya know, they have a new recording out. You wanna know what it’s called? Well, it’s called “Ashes Of Angels”. Now, you can’t get clearer than that, can you?

Your Holiness, lemme tell you, they SURELY don’t talk about fluffy bunnies and Easter eggs and the Grace of God. I don’t suppose that it surprises you, does it?… Well, you’re familiar with the term “satanic black metal”, aincha? Bingo, then.

Weeeeell, it DOES sound a bit like Antaeus, those other blasphemers we’ve been talking about during our last session, seeing as the two bands share the same vocalist, an’ all. Yes, yes, it seems so.

Oh, dear, Your Holiness, I really don’t know why you’re so interested in such detail. Anyway, – where in Hell is the damned paper, ah, there it is… – here it goes. They surely sound pretty traditional for a black metal band. Y’ know, tremolo-picking, almost no bottom end, lotsa blastbeats, screeched vocals.

The production? The production is, how to put it properly? “Dense” but not “total white-out” is the best I can come up with. As far as musical devices go, they seem to like to slow down things a bit (as in “Cries Out Of Heaven”), but generally speaking, they seem to move within the known parameters of the genre.

No, OF COURSE I don’t know what I’m talking about. Some brothers accepted the task of listening to it and giving me a brief, from which I’m reading you these things. I would never pollute my ears with such abominations.

Anyway, my point is that we HAVE to do something about these guys and with this whole thing in France. I can never understand how a pure Catholic, God-fearing country can produce such unholy, ungodly racket.

What do you mean “Don’t do anything”, Your Holiness? And, oh Jesu help me, what’s that NOISE coming from the background? Your Holiness, WHAT are you listening to?????!!!!
